Black Friday 2016 Megathread: Post the best deals you've found here!
Hi all! Given the high number of awesome deals available for Black Friday 2016, we thought it would be a good idea to have a central place to add your findings. Comment with any and all deals you've found, and we'll do our best to add them (and possibly a hat-tip!). UPDATE: Given the high number of deals that are still active for Cyber Monday, we'll keep this post alive for today. Once the big weekend is finished for another year, that's all folks!
A few members have messaged saying not all deals are relative to their area – so we've tried to mitigate that by including a few sites that have pretty comprehensive roundups for that area specifically.
This was my first and unfortunately last Forest (at least for a few years - I basically can't take time off during June when all the senior residents are leaving to start jobs around the country, and there are less residents to man the OR's - I just happened to get VERY lucky since I dropped a shitload of cash before the email went out stating I can't take vaca in June, and they were ok with me taking the time off). But I just wanted to make this post to help all those who will be looking through these threads in the future (just like I did) about Good Life, it's percs, and why I chose Electric Avenue specifically. Basics about EA GL:http://www.electricforestfestival.com/ticket-information/good-life-electric-avenue-tents/ I'm sure this link will be taken down so I'll just copy and paste what's written, and expand on some of the points listed.
2-4 GOOD LIFE VILLAGE Weekend Wristbands - needs no explanation, but I'd say get 4 because its cheaper per ticket and because it was so so easy for us to sell these days (yes, a few days) before the festival started - see at the end of this post for more details on what we did with our 'extra' tickets.
Access to the main festival venue and stages - needs no explanation.
Accommodations in a large weather proof Safari style tent with window and a tarp floor in the GOOD LIFE VILLAGE. This tent was legit - thick material to withstand mother nature at its worst. The windows were netted window screens and had removable/foldable window flaps.
Tent is prepared for your arrival – NO SETUP NEEDED. - needs no explanation, but is one of the reaons why I chose this option was because I didn't want to haul a bunch of camping gear, even though I was driving up from Detroit, MI.
Two Setup Options:
*Choice of 2-4 cots per tent with duvet, bedding, and pillows - they gave us a bed sheet cover and a pillow with a pillow case for each cot. Id say bring an extra sheet, or camping bag (like my buddy did) and sleep on the cot with all this items for extra comfort.
*Choice of bed and mattress (2 twin beds or one Queen) with duvet, bedding, and pillows - we chose cots over beds because of the reviews in various EF threads. For example, one thread mentioned "How do cots keep you cooler than air mattresses? - They're thinner and let the air flow from underneath. Mine keeps me level with my windows so the breeze hits me from above and below." I also checked out the EA GL tent with beds, and those beds were massive, and looked very comfy; the tents with the beds in them looked more teepee shaped (vs more typically shaped tents we had with the cots in them), and I believe they had more space in them.
ELECTRICITY provided in your Safari tent - this was the #1 reason I bought EA GL. And they provided a surge protector also with at least 5-6 outlets on the surge protector. We brought our own surge protector as well. We brought a portable fan and a portable air conditioner for our tent, so we were comfortable in our tent during the daytime (weather was 70-80s). It got very cool at night (50-60s), so a heater woulda been clutch, but fortunately we packed clothing approriate for the cool Michigan nights. I had absolutely no problem sleeping at night in GL, neighbors were friednly and down to earth, and wanted to get some shut eye after the GL village stage was done with at like 5am-6am.
Lock for tent - they give you multiple keys (between 2-4) for the same lock when you first arrive.
A light for the tent - it was a small click-on light source orb that was placed in a cylindrical lamp, provided some light, but not a great source. I'd recommend bringing another small lamp for a better light source. Cooler in tent - very small cooler, will fit like 2-3 cans of beer with no ice in it. I bought a 100 or 150 gallon ice chest / cooler, filled it with dry ice on the bottom, and then with 4 bags of ice on top. I never had to get ice again for that entire weekend (i think they charge you 10 bucks per bag of ice in the camping grounds). GET DRY ICE - never thought about it until i read the many posts on this sub - search for the posts about how to handle it (ie, dont touch it with your bare hand) and keeping your windows open while you drive with it (because it is essentially carbon dioxide), etc. there are also posts on where to get dry ice (i got mine at meijers in muskegon, about 30 mins south of rothbury).
Dedicated Electric Avenue Tent Camping Bathrooms - air conditioned trailer restrooms were situated to the left of our tents, it looked like only the EA GL people were using it. Air conditioned trailer bathrooms were situated to the right of our tents, it looked like the EA GL and regular GL people were using it (but i may be mistaken), but the lines were never too bad. Water pressure was variable, but mainly on the better side. Was able to take hot showers also. The second day the water pressure was essentially zero, but that was because the generator couldn't keep up with everyones electricity requirements from their tents. They ended up getting a bigger generator within the hour or so and solved the problem. Restrooms and bathrooms were pretty clean, good lighting inside, clear mirrors.
Dedicated Electric Avenue Tent Camping Shaded Lounge Area - this was situated to the left of our tents, I never saw many people going into it / utilizing it. I think they played music in it, but we didn't spend much time there.
Dedicated Electric Avenue Tent Camping Concierge to help with any questions about your tent - Very nice staff, always willing to help or find someone who could help. They would often ask me if everything was going well, and if I needed anything, or if they could do anything to make my stay better. Fucking badass. They let us use the water hose attached to the bathrooms to fill up our inflatable hot tub with water (but we never once jumped in it, cuz the water had too much gravel in it). Just to be nice, they let us use their golf carts to travel from our camp to the water refill station (not a far walk at all). They would swing by our camps and update us on the water supply / power outage situations (which happened once or twice the entire week) and what the ETA was on fixing the problem. They gave us updates on who would play the secret sets, if they knew, or what the rumor was on who was supposed to play. (They actually post set times for the good life village around 9PM each night, so just remember to check back around that time for the final lineup each night).
Parking near your tent - for EA GL, you are not parked directly in front or behind or to the side of your tent like regular GL. There is some land situated by the EA GL camping sites (barely a few minutes walk), and that is where we parked. On our day of arrival, when we parked our car, we unloaded everything from our cars and they had a dude on a golf cart help us load all our stuff on his cart and go back and forth to our tent multiple times until we had all our stuff at our tents.
Early Arrival on Wednesday, June 24, starting at 4pm - only regular GL and EA GL got this early arrival / pool party for free with the price of the ticket. Back 40, Frontier, and even Enchanted Campground had to pay hundreds of dollars extra (ie, in addition to the ticket price) for this amenity.
Admission to the GOOD LIFE Welcome Party on Wednesday Night hosted by Bells Brewery with free craft beers, BBQ, and live music from an Electric Forest Artist! - no explanation necessary. I heard they ran out of beer and bbq, but i heard that party was PACKED and a lot of fun!
Access to all GOOD LIFE Amenities:
Access to premium viewing areas inside the venue at multiple stages - they were not front and center stage, roped off viewing areas - more like gated off corner pocket of the stage, but all the way up to the front; defnitenly was not disappointed with the GL viewing area locations and their views.
Access to the GOOD LIFE LOUNGE inside the venue with shade, food, lounge seating, private bar and special events - good food (tacos, burgers, paella, ice cream, fully stocked bar; had free make your own bloody marrys one day), saw people with their hammocks chillin and eating. a couple we talked to were speaking very highly of their gluten free options throughout the venue (not sure if it was necessarily good life lounge, or the other areas of the festival).
Access to the GOOD LIFE VILLAGE - no explanation necessary
Upgraded showers inside the GOOD LIFE VILLAGE - i didnt use any of the 'non-EA GL' showers or bathrooms within the GL village
Air-conditioned VIP bathrooms inside the GOOD LIFE VILLAGE - no explanation necessary
Access to The Village Square with private food vendors, ice sales, ATMs, special events and more - no explanation necessary
Access to The GOOD LIFE Village Lounge with late night music from your favorite Electric Forest artists! - the #2 reason why I got GL - cuz I like partying until the sun comes up, and thats exactly what we did after the close of each night. Wednesday night was the pool party with cherub which went from 7-9pm (missed the whole thing cuz i got stuck in the line into EF on wednesday from 5-1030pm; apparently both GA and GL lines were so ridiculously long that they started letting in GA in also that wednesday). Fortunately cherub's dj played another set at 2am-3am on wednesday night (well, technically thursday AM). Thursday night after the festival stages closed, we had a 330am-530am or 6am set with odesza and black tiger sex machine (i love how odesza played none of the same stuff from their main stage set that night). Friday night at the GL VIP stage we had a b2b set with vaski, 12th planet, crizzly, snails, skrillex, datsik, and black tiger sex machine until the sun came up lol, fuckin epic. Saturday night we had electron and son of kick go until 630 in the AM. Sunday night I was not present in GL village lounge, but heard it was gramatik and gibbz, then exmag, then branx (i was in the GA RV area where big gigantic and cherub's dj played a sunrise set on top of my buddy's holy ship RVs - still cant believe that happened. they had dj equipment, sax, drumset all on top of the RVs, fences on the floor around the RVs, cops on horses - all from 330am-530am lol). Apparently odesza was spinning at some1's RVs in GL on friday night also. and there were a bunch of GA afterparties and sun rise sets which i'm sure i haven't even heard of. Another great aspect of the goof life village stage was that you could bring your own alcohol to this stage. Each night I'd just change into my PJ's (warmer, more comfy clothing for the cool nights) and bring a case of beer and just drink/shotty em with the other GL'ers).
GOOD LIFE VILLAGE concierge service to assist with all of your questions and needs - no explanation necessary
WOODLAND KITCHEN + BAR exclusive food and bar area - no explanation necessary
Two shortcut festival venue entrances, one into Ranch Arena and one directly into Sherwood Forest - the ranch arena entrance was so key - made it so easy and timely to make it to our camps from the festival for a few drinks, to grab food, batteries for our phones, make quick restroom stops etc. and we NEVER had a line whatsoever to get back from our GL camp into the festival (unlike GA which had hours+ long waits at times). they did make us empty out the water in our camelbaks each time tho. i never used the direct sherwood forest entrace, but was able to visualize it from a far.
Access to the 24 hour GOOD LIFE Express shuttle service, which offers guests speedy travel between the GOOD LIFE Village, The Back 40, the GA Campground, and the Water Park/Frontier - also a great amenity cuz we as GL could ride the shuttles and golf carts throughout the festival for free (I think GA had to pay 5 bucks per ride). i was able to carry sealed cases of beer from GL to GA via shuttle without a problem. shuttles and golf carts came very frequently also (every 5-10 minutes).
Cost:
We got a 4 person EA GL tent with 4 cots
The total cost was 3550.00 + 10.00 delivery charge + 5.00 payment plan charge = 3565.00 grand total. I deposited 370.00 when I first got the package (December 2014), literally minutes after the tickets went on sale. I then payed 1065.00 for 3 months (February, March and April 2015).
If 3 people went, the cost would be 1188.33 per person.
If 4 people went, the cost would be 891.25 per person. And we ended up getting 4 people to go, but 2 buddies backed out last minute. We actually sold the 2 tickets for 100 bucks cheaper (ie, 790) to people who wanted to camp with their own crews, but also enjoy the percs of GL EA, so it was a win win (more space for us, while they get to use the showers, hit up the GL Village afterparties, etc).
I felt like GL EA was the best bang for buck, and is why I opted for this package. Back 40, Frontier, and Enchanted Campground were ridiculiously expensive - each a minimum of 1100 bucks per person. Regular GL was the cheapest option (I believe by ~200 bucks), but I wanted electricity in the tents and our own, more private showers/bathrooms, and I didn't want to deal with setting up and dismantling a tent. I packed up on Monday around noon, and had no line whatsoever to get the f*ck out of dodge (apparently this was an issue for GA). If you can help it, dont look at the pics and videos people post on this sub. I did exactly that just so I would be submersed with sensory overload from the Forest, and I experienced exactly that every single day and night. And the following day I would surprisingly discover more and more parts of the forest. And do GL, it's worth it (amenities provided, no lines entering festival, close to the main stages, incredible afterparty sets, able to actually sleep at night, and so much more). Hope this helps - I'll try and answer any and all questions even if they're asked months later. Happy Forest ya'll!
